I have resisted the temptation to write about American politics, though I watch very closely (too closely). Today I'm breaking that silence. Let me tell you a wonder, my friend. Today I saw a clod of dirt become a garden. Today I saw a seed sprout. Today I saw a miracle. I want to write about that.
The Supreme Court nomination hearings for Justice Amy Coney Barrett have been captivating to watch on so many levels. It's likely the most hotly debated hearings for any Supreme Court Justice at any time in US history. I won't get into it, but turn on the news or watch the Twitter feed. ACB, a conservative Christian woman who holds said views, is replacing a female justice who had virtually the opposite ideas on almost every subject. Add this to the fact that it's an election year, and she was appointed (lawfully) by President Donald Trump. You can imagine how this has amped up the political war going on south of the border. All that aside, something happened out of the limelight that was utterly insane, which you won't likely see anything on mainstream media for the simple fact that it in no way fits the popular narratives. And dare I say, in no way promotes the Enemy's agenda (please note the capital "E" - our battle is never against flesh and blood, Ephesians 6:10ff). Dianne Feinstein (D-Cal), the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, in her final remarks compliments Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), the committee chair and a hardcore Republican. She said,
"This has been one of the best set of hearings that I've participated in. It leaves one with a lot of hopes, a lot of questions and even some ideas perhaps of good bipartisan legislation we can put together."
Jaw drop.
Understand, these two are dyed-in-the-wool adversaries, standing on opposite sides of the political aisle in every way. They represent the political Right and Left in starkest of contrasts. They…hate…each other? You should have seen the mudslinging that happened all week. On second thought, it's not worth seeing - find a highlight reel. I'll simply say that ACB - mother of seven - handled it as a Supreme Court Justice should 😜.
The moment continued with Linsday thanking Feinstein for how she and the democrats conducted themselves. Then he walked over and the two embraced.
Freeze Frame.
My heart started to thud in my chest. What were we seeing?! God is shouting in my ear, "See?!"
Reconciliation.

Is this what He wants? At that moment, I felt the Spirit hovering, and I knew something was happening that could never be orchestrated by the Evil One. Was this his answer to the prayer of millions (myself included) for your-kingdom-come-your-will-be-done?!
Here's what we often pray for and believe will be the answer to our prayer: that we win. Life is a massive Crusade - may the best Crusader win. But what if the heart of God is at some deeper level than that. What if his desire, his dream, is that his children experience reconciliation first and foremost with him, but also with each other? Healing. Restoration. Love, the kind that even loves your Enemy. What if, on the field of Humanity's struggle for life, this is his command: do good to those who persecute you? I assure you, it is.
This is hauntingly reflected in a vision of heaven out of the Book of Isaiah, where the Lion and Lamb lie down together - a poetic picture of impossible reconciliation. Please note: the lion remains a lion and the lamb remains a lamb. This is not the end of hostilities that naturally flows from symmetry and sameness! Can you imagine if both sides came to the table (the right and the left) in peaceful reconciliation, recognizing the each had something to bring to the table, with a committed effort to hearing the other, to listening, to understanding, and together seeking truth (truth IS bipartisan, it is not "left" or "right")? What would happen?! What if both sides recognized that at some baser level, they both had been influenced by the Evil One toward division and slander and the breaking of God's heart?
It's hard to fathom in this age of fragmentation, but I'm convinced of one thing: the Enemy would lose, and Evil would take a nuclear hit from which it would never recover.
And Humanity would win. I want that.
